The driving force behind the Boonburrh home is to explore ‘pull apart living’.
Channelling Jeffrey Bawa, the idea of separating areas of our home with pavilions that connect via open air or partially covered walkways seems appropriate for the client needs, the sites topography and the subtropical location.
The aesthetics, proportions and form on the other hand are a completely different inspiration. The dark, horizontal and light weight language was driven from a need to create a home that integrated as best as possible into a high-profile site.
The clients appreciation for natural materials that weather as a feature over time allowed for a more relaxed atmosphere.
Once the pull apart plan concept and the materiality was understood the rest was an endeavour to get the balance, scale and proportions to work into the site with ease.
